Alcohol Addiction is Real: But You Can Now Color the Stress Away
I have hurt so many important people in my life. All thanks to alcohol addiction.
I finally admit it.
No excuses given.
None taken either.
Then I further hid in alcohol addiction – aka alcoholism – deliberately disguised by the devil as a “harmless drink here” or “two there,” “a bottle with a couple of friends,” or “Hey, I’m just drinking indoors.”
You know the works.
A “quick and tasty solution” for my problems until things spiraled completely out of my control, and boom! I ended up in – the sorry highlight of my life – an actual jail! Yes, like Paul and Silas, but I digress.
Hehe, what a joke, all due to alcohol addiction. When I look back now, nobody deserves to endure the pain and shame of alcohol addiction alone. It’s hard enough when you’re battling other demons, too.
Yap, just like you, I didn’t see all the symptoms until it was too late. Man, I would be living in perpetual regret were it not for the Word of God, who strengthens me.
But then it wasn’t a one-time “he’s sober, take him home” jail visit.
No.
One time became two times. And I didn’t see it back then (that’s the blinding effect of alcoholism). You should know the clarity you regain when you quit alcohol addiction. It’s a breeze.)
So I was thrown back in jail. Indeed, alcoholism can ruin dreams and waste your life (take it from me).
Not even the two times.
But multiple times, my late brother gave up on bailing me out (May God rest his soul in eternal peace).
If this weren’t based on a true story, I would be cracking myself up with laughter.
Alcohol Addiction is Brutal!
I took a sh*t on the wall so many times and blamed everybody else but myself with the alcohol addiction!
How ridiculously sad and selfish it is when I look back at all the friends, opportunities, and time I have lost due to excessive alcohol consumption.
I can’t believe it either; I was completely oblivious to the fact for each year I wasted in alcohol addiction!
But, for an alcoholic, this oblivion is like…
Some utopia or Narnia, to which you escape without realizing life is crumbling around you. Before discovering that the alcohol is also eating you from the inside out!
Newsflash – it’s neither utopia nor Narnia. It’s some sort of limbo.
That’s right. Alcoholism blinds you real good, and then sweeps you off your feet when you least expect it. It is excruciatingly painful typing these words.
Folks, you better listen to your family and friends’ advice before alcohol does a number on you. It is all fun and games until you piss all your life down the drain.Take it from me, I count myself lucky I recovered. Many don’t make it out!
N/B: The term “folks” applies to everyone – high school kids, university students, young adults, and anybody who is prone to the risk of alcohol addiction.
My situation with alcoholism is unbelievable because in my younger years, I hated drunkards with a passion. Well, it’s more like disliked. Hate is such a strong word. Is it not?.
I would point out at drunks lying by the roadside and say, “That will never be me…blah blah.”
I would then walk away with my nose in the air. Guess I became the thing I hated most? Huh?
No! That will never be my portion in Jesus’ Name, Amen!
He died on the cross for my sins and failures, and I was set free from the shackles of alcohol addiction by the power of our God, who art in heaven in Jesus’ name. Amen!
God can save you, too!
Back to the article.
The Baseline of Alcohol Addiction is…
The baseline is, back then, I messed up big time. The worst part is that you couldn’t tell me a thing about it because – that’s the thing with alcohol addiction – it pumps you up with ego and disconnects you from all the people who care, love, and want to help you.
Also, I was young and foolish. A stupid moron all around. And careless enough that the enemy took the driver’s seat in my life. Oh my God, the younger “slow” me makes me laugh at the clip below.
The above video is for comic relief, considering the status quo. It’s a short but funny YouTube video from the movie Zootopia.
One of my editors back then, Nathan, simply told me to deal with my issues. If he only knew the chokehold alcohol addiction had on me. Hehe! Funny but not funny.
Only if we could turn back the hands of time.
But Still…
I laughed so hard at the above scene that I teared up.
If you’re having one of those crappy days because you’re having alcohol withdrawal symptoms (I didn’t realize it’s a real serious problem), grab a healthy snack and prepare to have a good time.
It’s a great family comedy movie. But maybe it’s just my opinion.
Man, if I thought humor and apologies could fix the things I broke out of alcohol addiction, I would write all of you a million letters. It’s that bad. Like, superbad.
Stay away from the alcohol, kids! The worst part is you never see the addiction part coming, and/or the people you’re hurting, until it is too late.
You think Flash the sloth in the video above is slow? Alcohol addiction detaches you from reality itself! Like standing at the mirror but facing backward and complaining you can’t see yourself.
Acceptance was the first step in mending my ways. It’s not too late for you either. If we learn to generate some traffic using the latest WordPress SEO tips we share later in the series, it’s good.
Isn’t that right? Excellent!
Back to the sad but true story:
When my brother Elijah Waweru passed away, I was devastated…😭😭😭
Yeah, he passed away on April 1st, 2024. On Easter Monday!
Don’t get things mixed up; so far, I have lost two brothers (directly or indirectly) to alcohol addiction.
Andrew Mithamo (May his soul continue resting in everlasting peace) departed on May 5th, 2016.
That’s eight (8) years apart, but still bloody stomach-wrenchingly painful.
Like I would forget the day 😭😭😭 He had some liver complications, this guy Andrew Mithamo (you hear that, kids?), before his untimely demise. But he was also cancer-free!
But what does that have to do with alcohol addiction?
Because there have been cases of cancer misdiagnosis in several hospitals. It’s like the first thing on people’s minds when you collapse and are rushed to the hospital for something benign as alcohol withdrawal. It’s yet another trick of the lying serpent!
But did you hear that? Both of my brothers were cancer-free at the time of their deaths! Which made no sense when they became undone so quickly because they were generally healthy and strong men who made few hospital visits, if any.
But also hands in the air for divine health and protection in the name of Jesus. Amen!
Back to the story…
At first, I thought whoever called me was pranking me on April Fool’s Day. By the way, pranking is also called “pulling your leg” in American English. Hehe.
But after thinking for a few minutes, I decided to call back.
He wouldn’t joke about something like that. Now would he?
My friend…
Nobody and nothing ever prepares you for news of death so close to home.
My late brother Elijah Waweru had put down the bottle many years before his super-sudden death!
He was a prime example that you can conquer alcoholism and recover, and repurpose your life in Jesus’ name. Amen!
He passed away suddenly within one year (story for another day, if I will ever be able to tell it) from complications with cancer treatment.
So, when he succumbed to these treatments (or whatever that was), I fell off the wagon, again!
Barreled and went off the rails real bad, it tightens my throat just to remember.
I went back to my favorite poison and drank…
…I drank like my soul depended on it.
Thinking, that’s how you deal with the pain, despair, and loss. (And deep-rooted unresolved issues from the past.)
Quick fun fact: IT IS NOT.
It’s all a BIG FAT LIE made to look and taste like your favorite drink.
On the contrary…
Alcohol Addiction makes you weak big time, mentally, physically, and spiritually – I know from experience, now.
My friend Patrick Mutuma, a mechanic, adds, “…alcohol addiction also affects your finances and game in the bedroom. You generally become poor everywhere all of a sudden!”
His words, not mine. Hehe. Funny guy. He’s battling alcohol addiction, too!
From what I have been through, you need God to battle alcoholism. You need Jesus and the Holy Spirit to intervene, and you’re already winning! This is just my experience as a Christian who sees alcoholism for what it is now.
You have to beat the thirst to drink and face your demons, pain, and problems head-on. Don’t be afraid. Don’t you have God with you? That’s right, you are in more control than you think!
Alcohol Addiction: You’re Stronger Than You Think
The enemy will use fear, worry, despair, loss, shame, and other ill feelings to throw you a curveball, then the depression stage, and/or (God forbid) suicide.
Yes, a dear friend of mine took his own life the day he came back from rehab! The same day 😭😭😭
That’s how alcoholism cuts deep and pains. I know the pain all too well. We didn’t have Christmas that year. That was back in December 2013. Another young soul gone too soon due to alcohol addiction. Among other things.
I wish I had done more to help my friend Evans Kirimi (RIP: 23-12-2013).
Do you see where I’m heading with this? Nobody is safe from the harmful compounded effects of alcohol addiction. You have to stay vigilant.
Moving on from alcohol addiction…
The enemy, satan, will double down on these feelings until it breaks you from the inside out. Backwards, too, like characters in the Insidious movies! Or those things from the From series.
So it will show you that drinking is the way out, until you lose your way and good senses, and your kidneys or liver, or the many other organs that excessive alcohol consumption destroys.

Quite a long list, huh?
And then it will put your mind in a never-ending and nerve-wracking daze like a zombie. This is the hardest part for many alcoholics. You’re just stuck in a loop while this poison eats your insides and wrecks your life without your knowing.
There is a reason we are told the body is the temple of the holy spirit. Not to fill with alcohol and drugs, among other things.
And don’t fall for the movies either, folks – excessive alcohol consumption is not fun – it’s addictive and deadly! Psst: They don’t even use real alcohol when acting.
I am telling you these things from experience. And lots of experience.
Don’t try playing with alcohol – it has been known to ruin kings since the days of the Old Testament! Many days ago, I was taken to the ER with a severe case of alcohol withdrawal. Yo, boys and girls, you don’t want this.
A Near-Death Experience
How alcohol addiction cost me many relationships, both at home and at work. How a friend had to break her leg for me to finally open my eyes.
I’m not even kidding, her leg was all busted up in a freak accident like she was in one of the Gladiator movies.
Sorry guys, I have had plenty of time to watch some movies in recovery. Turns out it is a hobby I had already forgotten. Damn alcohol addiction!
As a side note on alcohol addiction:
Her case is not involved with my alcoholic past directly. Even though I might have given her poor advice when under the influence of alcohol.
Instead of relying on the Bible to find the right answers. Instead of simply asking God!
Aren’t we all connected in some way? No?
Nonetheless, she was involved in a dreadful road accident at about 11 AM while I was at work on April 26th, 2025.
And when they finally called me from the hospital, my world stood still. I couldn’t breathe. I have never been so panicky and shaky at the same time. That “back giving out” thing we are about to mention in the next section.
However, they say every cloud has a silver lining. That unfortunate near-death experience my friend had was an eye-opener for all of us. For me, yours truly, especially.
And for the first time in many years, I turned around and saw the man in the mirror, and how I have let so many people down due to excessive alcohol consumption.
Because I could have lost one of the people close to me that day!
Thanks to God, she is recovering well. Help Eunice get on her feet quickly with flowers, a small gift, and well wishes in Jesus’ name. Amen!
End of side note about alcohol addiction.
I become nauseated when I think about it. How I missed many opportunities because alcoholism robs you dry. Don’t play with fire, kids. Don’t place a coal of fire on your chest and expect not to burn.
I thought about how being an alcoholic affected other important people in my life without my knowing, and that’s when it all came crashing down!
Mixed memories of numerous times I have let family, friends, and workmates down due to alcoholism bombarded me from every side.
The bad decisions, the stupid ideas, the anger, the careless advice – they all came flooding in I could barely stand. That’s right, my back nearly damn gave out.
This became the inspiration behind this post.
I am fully recovered now, and I quit cold turkey. You can too. It’s not easy, but together, it’s a lot easier than you think. Don’t wait until alcohol takes over your life like it did mine. No, you deserve to achieve your dreams in Jesus’ name, Amen!
If you’re wondering where I am going with all this.
That said…

My Fallen Heroes
This post is fully dedicated to my late brothers: Elijah Waweru Mukaria (Born 12th Dec 1979 – Rested April 1st 2024)
That is this guy:
How I wish I were there for him more. Instead, the enemy had me wallowing senselessly and unwisely in alcohol addiction while he and his wife battled cancer treatment.
And this guy, Andrew Mithamo Mukaria (Sunrise: 1/1/1974 to Sunset: May 5th, 2016):

This picture was taken at my late brother Elijah Waweru’s wedding more than 10 years ago! And guess what? Even then, I didn’t realize I was addicted to alcohol.
The bride is now a widow with three kids to raise. The other lady holding a kid in the picture is my sister, who has also endured the effects of alcohol addiction from a family member. Yet I feel like I could have done so much more.
We are, invariably, all victims of alcohol addiction in one way or another, so it’s better to look out for one another. Be your brother’s keeper.
Don’t make the same mistakes I made!
Our God, who is art in heaven, wants to save you or somebody you know from alcohol addiction in Jesus’ name. Amen! Don’t let this chance pass. It’s free and simple with God after all.
So here is the free subscription box again, just to make sure you don’t miss all the freedom and good things that are coming your way.

Battling alcohol addiction can be a lonely and scary journey for just about anyone. To help anyone in rehab (or even outside rehab), order a few sets of coloring books and journals on Amazon to keep them busy. Help them color the stress away!
The coloring books are dirt-cheap on Amazon and could be the difference between saving a life or living a life of regret.
Better still, order yourself a KJV Bible instead, and help them fight alcoholism with the powerful Word of God. This worked wonders for yours truly. It works for many people, too!
If you order today, all items will arrive before this year’s Memorial Day!
Are you a victim, or a friend you know, a big coffee lover? Buy Sh#t On the Wall mug.
Finally, to help me keep the lights on and more such articles coming (and combat alcohol addiction in society), hire me as a premium SEO content writer or introduce me to somebody in need of one.
